I want you to take a mental screenshot of this image! 📷

Why? Because chances are that as you’re scrolling through Instagram you WILL be bombarded with the latest trends and fads in the wellness industry. ⁣

It just happens that “gut health”, and specifically the gut microbiome (the trillions of bacteria that live inside your intestines), has become the new cool kid on the block that everyone is talking about.⁣ And honestly, your gut microbes deserve the fame! For decades their diligent work in keeping you happy and healthy has gone unnoticed. ⁣

The more I delve into the research, the more I’m blown away! Your gut microbes not only keep your digestion working smoothly, they also keep your immune system in check and can even influence your mental health. Crazy, huh?⁣

Your gut microbes not only keep your digestion working smoothly, they also keep your immune system in check and can even influence your mental health.

BUT HERE`S THE THING: Only recently have we been able to detect and understand the wonderfully complex world of microbes inside your body, thanks to amazing advances in technology. Research has exploded the past few years, and experts agree: The gut microbiome holds a LOT of potential to redefine how we understand health and disease, and how we will approach patient care and treatment in the future. ⁣

And now let me get to the INFURIATING part of it. Even though we still know little about the intricate make-up and function of our gut microbiome, many individuals, supplement industries and social media influencers (quacks) have jumped on the bandwagon, because they know that gut health is “in” and there’s TONS of money to be made. They often use big words to promote supplements, pills and other things that promise “to heal your gut”. Most of their claims are however NOT based on scientific evidence. ⁣

If there’s one thing I want you to remember it is this: ⁣

  • 💊 Colon cleanses, detox teas, collagen supplements or Sephoras latest beauty powder DO NOT make your gut healthier. ⁣

  • What science is CLEARLY showing can make your gut microbiome healthier:⁣

  • 🥬🥔🍅 A diet rich in DIVERSE fiber foods, such as vegetables, fruits, grains, beans, nuts and seeds. ⁣

So please save your money and go and eat your fiber! ⁣
